TD-00 Web and app development

Here's what I've built.

I make websites and apps in Tokyo. Lumint, an app that turns a photo of a class worksheet into practice questions, is my own product. So is Arimono, a web app that suggests recipes from what's in your fridge. I also build websites for companies.

TD-01 Products

Things I thought up and built myself.

Product 01 A review app for junior high and high school students

Lumint

Soon App Store, Google Play

Turns class worksheets into practice sets you can redo any time.

Once a student writes the answers on a worksheet, redoing it is pointless because the answers are right there. Lumint reads a photo of the worksheet with AI, pulls out the questions and answers, and turns them into questions the student can answer again on their phone.

Pencil answers are kept separately as the paper answer, so the student can compare what they wrote last time.

  • 5 subjects Japanese, math, English, science, social studies
  • 8 types Question formats, like fill-in, reorder and written
  • 3 levels Difficulty of the new questions AI writes
  • 2 OSes iPhone and Android, with home screen widgets

Concept, design, development, landing page

Scan it, solve it, ask about it.

  1. The screen right after a worksheet is read

    1 Scan

The system scanner, VisionKit on iPhone and ML Kit on Android, finds the page edges and flattens the photo.

  2. A wrong answer with the correct answer and explanation

    2 Redo

Every answer gets marked right away, with an explanation. Missed questions come back at the end of the round.

  3. A chat with Lumi, the AI tutor, about a question

    3 Ask

Tap Ask Lumi to ask Lumi, the AI tutor, about the question you just answered.

Product 02 AI recipe web app

Arimono

Decide tonight's dinner from what's already in the fridge.

Type in what's in your fridge and the AI suggests recipes that use it. It's for the nights you can't decide what to cook, or when something is about to go off.

TD-02 Client work

I also build company websites.

WordPress, Next.js, or plain HTML and PHP. Each company got the setup that fit it.

TD-03 How I work

What I care about on a job

  1. Agree before building

Before I write code, I tell you how I understood the spec and the request, and we check it together.

  2. Say where things stand

You hear what's done and what's stuck as it happens, not at the deadline.

  3. Leave it easy to change

I keep the code simple and readable, with the next round of changes in mind.

TD-05 About

About TomoDevelops

I build the frontend and backend of web apps. Most of my work has been for small teams and individual clients, from understanding the spec through building it and improving it after launch.

I try to get the requirements right, pick a setup that isn't more than the job needs, and leave something that's easy to run for years. Lately I've been building my own mobile app, Lumint.
